The Burien Pride Scholarship Committee is officially accepting applications for their first endowment. The 2018/2019 application is available online as well as in person at the Discover Burien office located at 427 SW 152nd Street, Burien, WA 98166. The deadline to enter is Sept. 15, 2018 at 5 p.m. PT. Recipients will be contacted on or before October 15, 2018. It is the committee’s focus to give back to the LGBTQ+ community and create inclusivity. “The Burien Pride committee is excited to have a scholarship fund available for the local LGBTQ+ community,” said Discover Burien Interim Director Debra George. “It is important for Discover Burien and the committee to give back to the community and this is our way of doing so. Scholarships will be awarded each year, with the first one being awarded this fall and two more being awarded in the spring of 2019.” The Burien Pride Scholarship was established in 2018. The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to individuals enrolled for study in colleges, trade schools, universities, or other educational programming. Burien Pride awards scholarships based on a comprehensive process. Areas that are reviewed by the committee include, but are not limited to, the following: Academic Accomplishments, Community Service, References, Personal Narrative, and Financial Need. Burien Pride Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Scholarships awarded are based upon the availability of funds and additional qualifying criteria. Mark your calendars: Burien Pride returns on Friday, May 31, 2019 for Drag Queen Bingo and Saturday, June 1, 2019 for the festival.
