Burien Actors Theatre’s Script Club took a month off, but it is back and bigger and better than ever before – it now meets twice a month, once during the day and once in the evening!

BAT’s daytime script club next meets this Thursday Sept. 20, 2018, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Merrill Gardens in Burien at 15020 5th Ave SW. There is no fee to attend!

What? You are not available in the middle of the day, even for the script club?

Never fear. On its break BAT’s script club grew. Now there are two!

BAT evening script club will meet for the first time on Oct. 4, 2018, from 7 to 8 p.m. You and your friends, old, new, and ones you haven’t met yet, will meet at the Burien Library in the conference room.

The club will be discussing Dr. Frankenstein by Selma Dimitrijevic. If you want the script please email [email protected] to make arrangements for a copy.

BAT’s 2018-19 season opens with Dr. Frankenstein by Selma Dimitrijevic on Oct. 5, 2018, at 8 p.m. It plays weekends throughout October, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. GET TICKETS HERE.

The year is 1831: debarred from attending university in England, Dr. Victoria Frankenstein (yes, you read that right) travels to Ingolstadt, where women are permitted to study medicine, and there seems to be a ready supply of disinterred cadavers, no questions asked.

Mary Shelley’s novel has been so often adapted, filmed and parodied there can’t be many interpretative avenues left to explore. But Selma Dimitrijevic’s new version is, to my knowledge, the first to change the gender of the central character. In certain respects, it seems an obvious intervention, given that the novel had a female creator. But it profoundly alters the trajectory of a book in which women are relegated to submissive, supporting roles.

This is not your parents’ Frankenstein!
