World-renown artist and Des Moines resident George C. Scott is converting an old navigational buoy into a giant kaleidoscope.
He envisions multiple viewports cut into the buoy that will use sunlight to illuminate depictions of sea life and the marine environment created by local art students. He’s calling it a “Marinascope.”
Come share your ideas and conceptions this Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. at 22220 Seventh Ave. South in downtown Des Moines (map below).
Learn how your artistic talents can contribute to beautifying our waterfront while you experience the creative process through hands-on learning.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is being funded through support from the Port of Seattle Airport Communities Environmental Grant Fund and the Des Moines Legacy Foundation to promote the local arts scene.
Photographers and videographers are also invited to help document and immortalize the process.
