Around 9 a.m. Thursday morning Oct. 18, 2018, Highline High School was put into modified lockdown due to a threatening comment made to office staff over the phone.

Police say that the school was put into lockdown after receiving a call from a male who threatened to come to campus with a gun. Detectives and School Security identified the juvenile male who made the call and interviewed him.

The lockdown was lifted at around 9:40 a.m., it was announced that “there was no actual threat,” and classes are back to normal.

Here’s what Chief Communications Officer Catherine Carbone Rogers of Highline Public Schools said:

“Highline High School is currently in a modified lockdown as a precaution. A comment perceived as threatening was made to office staff over the phone. Police are investigating. Extra security is on site as an additional precaution.

“There is no immediate threat to the school.

“The safety of our students is our number one priority. We take every report of a threat seriously and respond immediately. School staff do not answer the phone during a lockdown so that their focus can remain on school safety. We ask that parents do not come to the school.”

The district later sent this email out to parents:

“Dear Highline High School Families,

“The lockdown has been lifted. Police investigated and spoke to the person who made the comment. They determined there was no actual threat.

“Thank you.”

Sgt. Ryan Abbott of the King County Sheriff’s Office told us:

“The School is in lockdown while they investigate a threat… no more info on it at this time but Police are out at the school.”

As we get more info, we’ll update this page (refresh page to see latest updates).

NOTES:

  • During lockdowns, school admin stops answering the phone, so don’t call the school.
  • Also, don’t go to the school campus until all is clear.
