Photo by Scott Schaefer.[/caption] A group of friends and fellow community leaders have come together to honor longtime former Burien Councilmember and Mayor Joan McGilton’s legacy at Seahurst Park with a memorial rock and plaque. McGilton, who served on the City Council for 12 years, with six as Mayor, passed away in July, 2017. The memorial will commemorate her unique and essential leadership in the master planning and funding for the restoration of the beach at Seahurst Park to improve marine habitat for salmon and other endangered species, while also creating a public space for people of all ages to enjoy. The Burien City Council has already approved this project, and it’s now time to raise community funds to make Joan’s rock memorial a reality. As of Wednesday, Nov. 7, $1,490 of the project’s $5,000 goal has been met. You can donate towards this project at:
