Windstorm knocks out power to over 4,300 in Burien Thursday

A severe windstorm has hit the region (and at least one tree) on Thursday, Dec. 20, knocking out power to over 4,300 customers in the central Burien area, from Shorewood and east on SW/S. 116th to Glendale Way South (see City Light’s outage map here): 

The National Weather Service says the strong winds – 25-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph – will continue until around 7 p.m. tonight:

…HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM PST THIS
EVENING…

* WIND…South to southeast wind 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to
60 mph.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS…Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and
Bremerton.

* TIMING…Strong winds will develop by noon and continue through
the afternoon hours.

* IMPACTS…Snapped tree branches and downed trees along with
power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
