UPDATE: The memorial for Ed Dacy will be at 11 a.m. – NOT 10 a.m. – this Wednesday, Mar. 13 at St. Bernadette’s Church.

Longtime resident and community activist Ed Dacy, 66, passed away on Feb. 19, 2019, and a memorial is planned for this Wednesday, Mar, 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernadette’s Church in Burien.

Ed grew up in Burien and graduated from Kennedy Catholic High School in 1971. He then went to Central Washington University in Ellensburg, where he received a BA in Business Administration with a specialization in Accounting in 1975.

Ed worked as a Tax Auditor for the Washington State Department of Revenue, from which he retired in 2006. He also worked for Rite Line Tax Service in Burien.

He was very active in the community, and was often seen at City Council meetings, where he commented frequently.

He ran unsuccessfully for council twice, losing to Kathy Keene in 2007, and Lucy Krakowiak in 2011.

Ed was a parishioner at St. Bernadette’s for 20 years, where he served as a Grand Knight Minister, Parish Council President, Athletic Director and much more.

His involvement in the community also included:

  • Vice Chair of the City of Burien’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
  • Board member and Treasurer of Hospitality House
  • Commissioner for CYO Youth Basketball for King County
  • Track announcer for Highline School District Track meets
  • Commission and track announcer for CYO Youth Track for King County
  • Chair of the Pastoral Council

Ed’s friend Trish Lee Foss posted this on Facebook:

“Ed passed away Tuesday evening (Feb. 19) at 10:40.
“Nice timing for a tax guy.
“It’s just like your sense of humor to do that.”

Ed clearly loved his community, as witnessed by his continuing dedication and involvement in Burien.

On a personal note, everyone at The B-Town Blog will miss Ed’s deep connection with the community, as well as his dry sense of humor. He often sent us tips about stories, like the time a Seagull was electrocuted outside Elmer’s, and more recently when two tabernacles were stolen from St. Bernadette’s.

Rest In Peace Ed – you will be missed!

  1. I was honored to serve with Ed when he was the long-time CHAIR of the Parks Board. Ed also peppered me with story ideas when I was editor of the Highline Times.
Ed was one of those citizens who sometimes annoyed the powers-that-be but who contribute so much to making a city a wonderful vital place. Ed will surely be missed.

  2. Ed loved CYO sports leagues, especially track, and was often the person on the field with the microphone calling the events, announcing the winners, etc. He didn’t have kids on the teams, but served for many years.
