Highline High School (HHS) announced this week that Deontae Cooper will be its new head football coach.

Here’s more from the announcement:

Cooper is a former running back at the University of Washington. He previously served as the associate head coach and running backs coach at Bellevue High School where the team finished 12-1 last year.

“I am excited for the opportunity to lead the Pirate family as the new head football coach. I’m committed to working with students and families to build Highline’s football program up so that it is student-centered and unites the community. Let’s get to work!” said Cooper.

Cooper spent six years playing for the Huskies during his college career, persevering through numerous injuries. He rose as a leader on the team, serving as team captain for both his junior and senior year.

“It is exciting to welcome Coach Deontae Cooper as an official Highline Pirate. He has all the skills and energy to continue to move our football program forward following one of our best years. His character is highly regarded and he is the right person to positively impact our student-athletes and school culture,” said HHS Athletic Director Lori Box.

During his high school career at Citrus Hill High School in Perris, California, Cooper finished with 7,450 rushing yards and 107 touchdowns. He helped lead Citrus Hill to a 38-1 record over his final three seasons including an area record 38 game win streak.

Cooper holds a Master’s Degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington’s School for Leadership in Athletics.
