The Burien City Council is discussing compostable food service requirements due to concerns about the effects of plastics on the natural environment, and the city will be holding a discussion on the morning of Friday, July 26.
Businesspeople are being invited to a BEDP meeting at City Hall on Friday, July 26 from 7:30 – 9 a.m.

The City Council has asked the Burien Business and Economic Development Partnership (BEDP) to provide recommendations on a draft compostable food service product law that would require that all food service products be made of compostable materials.
In order to gather feedback from Burien businesses about the potential ban, the BEDP is hosting a business roundtable on July 26. Businesses will have the opportunity to learn more about what materials would be banned under the proposed law, what exemptions are allowed under the current draft language, and more information on options for procuring compostable food service products.
All Burien business members are invited:

Invited participants will include a representative of Zero Waste Washington, members of City staff, compostable material providers, and Burien business owners representing a variety of businesses that may be affected.
The BEDP is an advisory group to City Council comprised of Burien business owners and residents interested in promoting economic development.
