The 48 Hour Film Project comes back to Seattle for a 14th year this Friday, July 13, with a kick-off event being held at Burien’s Zoo Break Stage.

The kickoff event will be held at Zoo Break Stage – located at the old Staples location – between 5 – 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

Currently, over 70 teams are registered, which means that over 1,000 people will be involved in making dozens of short films this weekend in the Seattle area.

Outside of SIFF, the Seattle 48HFP is the largest filmmaking event in Washington and even the largest filmmaking event north of Los Angeles on the West Coast.

The teams are given a genre paring, a line of dialogue, a prop, and a character – all of which must be used to create a 4-7 minute short film between 7 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

NOTE: It’s not guaranteed, but frequently teams are looking for additional cast and crew all the way up to the kickoff – so if you’re at all interested in working on a 48 Hour Film or want to know more, you should just show up!

After the films are turned in, they are screened at the Uptown Theater on July 23-25 with an awards event on Aug. 6.

Judges this year for the Best in City Winner are local luminary Nancy Guppy, Lane 1974 director SJ Chiro, and Women in Film Seattle President Emerita Virginia Bogert.

The 48HFP staff will be on hand to answer questions and a great number of the participants will be present as well.
