The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) spring session will start March 20, then continue every Thursday night from 6 – 9 p.m. for eight weeks at SeaTac City Hall.

The goal of the CERT program is to train members of neighborhoods, community organizations, and workplaces in basic preparation and response skills in the case of a large-scale disaster or emergency.

CERT members are integrated into the emergency response capability for their area. Training topics include fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster psychology, and terrorism.

The training sessions are held twice a year in the spring and fall. The sessions require approximately 20 hours to complete. The class cost is $35 and it goes towards CERT supplies, including a First Aid Kit.

Training is designed to cover the following:

  • Disaster preparedness
  • Fire safety
  • Disaster medical operations
    • Triage
    • Treating life threatening injuries
    • Assessment, treatment, and hygiene

Classes are held every Thursday, 6 – 9 p.m., for 8 weeks at SeaTac City Hall, 4800 S. 188th St.
