Burien resident Christi Zellerhoff (pictured above, left, along with Illustrator Amy Davis) will be holding a launch party for her new children’s book “Princesses Can Be Pirates Too!” at Burien Books on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Christi lives in Burien and, along with local illustrator Amy Davis, recently published her first children’s picture book.

“We are thrilled that Allison, owner of Burien Books, has offered to host our book launch party on Saturday Jan 26th from 1-3pm,” she told us. “This is our first ‘debut’ and I am really happy to have it in a Burien venue. We will be signing books and serving appetizers, etc.”

Burien Books is located in Olde Burien at 824 SW 152nd Street; (206 244-1422).

Here’s a synopsis of the book:

Who says girls can’t play boys’ make-believe games too? “No Girls Allowed,” will simply NOT do for this little Princess! “Princesses Can Be Pirates Too!” proves that just because a girl is wearing a pink fluffy dress and gold crown doesn’t mean she can’t act like a pirate just as good as any boy. Yes- even a refined and dainty princess can become a rough and tumble pirate! This is the playful and empowering premise of “Princesses Can Be Pirates Too!”

“A princess can do what a pirate can too; she can captain a ship and take charge of the crew”… “Should unfriendly pirates try climbing aboard, she can fend off the foes with a “SWOOSH” of her sword!” are just a few of the things this feisty princess can do in this humorous interpretation and approach to a pirate’s life with a princess’ sense of style.

Here’s more about it from Christi:

“Princesses Can Be Pirates Too!” was inspired by my overhearing an argument between my two young children, Henry & Claire. On this particular day, Claire was dressed in her princess costume and wanted to play “Pirates” with her older brother Henry, who was dressed in his pirate costume. He protested, “Girls can’t be pirates, especially princesses!” Her feisty response was “OH YES THEY CAN!” Viola-“Princesses Can Be Pirates Too!” was born.
