The next Climate and Culture Planning Session for Highline High School will be held this Wednesday night, Aug. 23, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the school’s cafeteria.

Inspired by a controversial incident involving the painting over of a message on the school’s Spirit Rock in June (read our previous coverage here), this will be the third session, where interested parents, students and citizens will form committees and begin developing action plans to address equity, race and positive school culture.

This meeting is open to all who want to participate in a positive movement towards a stronger, more unified and equitable school culture.

The goal is to ensure that “every student is safe, accepted and celebrated,” Principal Vicki Fisher said.

Here’s the text of a message sent out by the school district:

Greetings, Highline Community,

You are invited to participate in creating a school community at Highline High School where every student is safe, accepted, and celebrated.

Over 60 people came together on August 10 to review and categorize ideas and input from students, staff, families and community members.  On Wednesday, we will form committees and begin developing action plans to address equity, race and positive school culture.
