South Highline National Little League Auction will be May 18 at The Cove

The South Highline National Little League will be holding their annual Silent and Live Auction event on Friday, May 18th at the Normandy Park Cove.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., live 80s music from The Time Bandits starts at 7 p.m., and raffle drawings and live auction starts at 8:15 p.m.

Food will be a Surf & Turf, with crab pots, seafood chowder, BBQ chicken, carsar salad and roasted corn.

Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 at the door.

There will be prizes for best costume, along with door prizes.

This is a BYOB event, and cups, ice and a few mixers will be provided.

Proceeds from this event help to offset the many expenses of Little League Baseball and Softball for South Highline National.

StartZone & Bainbridge Graduate Institute Holding Small Biz Reception May 18

Highline and the Bainbridge Graduate Institute are co-sponsoring a reception to be held from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Friday, May 18th at the Burien Community Center, located at 14700 6th Avenue South in Burien.

The event will provide marketing opportunities for nearly 20 client businesses including arts and crafts, food and a range of service providers. Representatives from BGI and Highline’s StartZone program will be present to discuss their shared vision to help create economic self-sufficiency for disadvantaged small businesses to more underserved communities throughout the state.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Bainbridge Graduate Institute was the first school to offer an MBA in Sustainable Business. Founded in 2002, BGI offers evening and weekend MBA and Certificate programs that thoroughly integrate environmental and social responsibility into every subject of the traditional core business curriculum. BGI works to help other business schools become more sustainable.

Get Ready for Burien Bike Day with a FREE ‘Bicycling 101′ Class May 9

A FREE ‘Bicycling 101′ class will be offered at Bicycles West on Wednesday, May 9, to help folks get ready for Burien Bike Day, which will be held May 18.

May 18 is National Bike Day, and the newly formed Walk/Bike Burien (WABI) is teaming up with Bicycles West, the City of Burien, Freggies, and Discover Burien to offer a pair of pedal-powered events for adults and children of all ages and abilities.

“In order to help you get ready for Burien Bike Day on Friday, May 18th and the warmer weather that know is around the corner, WABI has teamed up with Bicycles West to offer a FREE Bicycling 101 class for those who want to learn or review what they need to get themselves and their families rolling on two wheels,” reads an announcement.

Here are the details:

WHEN: Wed., May 9th, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

WHERE: Bicycles West – 804 SW 151st Street, Burien.

WHO: Anyone interested in learning or getting refreshed on bicycling basics, including riding around town and commuting safely and confidently to work or the transit center on a bike.

Burien Bike Day 2012
Local Burien Bike Day sponsors will host a morning Bike Commuter Support Station at Town Square Park for Burienites pedaling their way to work or the Transit Center.

From 6:00am to 9:00am on Friday May 18th, the station will offer Burien bike commuters healthy organic snacks, cool giveaways, and a gathering place for bicycle commuters from Burien neighborhoods.

The Station will also have the mechanical pros from Bicycles West, and experienced bike commuters on hand to discuss routes and safety, and to answer your cycling questions.

Then at 10:00 am WABI will be sponsoring its first Bike SaFaRi (Safe Family Ride) of 2012.

With schools closed on Burien Bike Day, Friday May 18th, WABI ride leaders will be leading a 3 mile ride especially for those hard-working parents home with kids for the day.

As always, the Bike SaFaRi will cover a safe, flat route; a perfect excursion for adults and kids building confidence, street smarts, and bicycling skills.

The ride will end back at Burien Town Square park at approximately 11:30am.
