To kick off the big traveling exhibit that the Highline Historical Society will be hosting in a Burien storefront beginning in October, the Society has launched a new website: http://www.wahopeinhardtimes.net.
On Oct. 15, “Hope in Hard Times: Washington During the Great Depression” will open to the public at the Historical Society’s temporary exhibit space at 216 SW 153rd Street in Burien.
Before then, people interested in learning more about the exhibit are welcome to visit the website to read about the unique array of community events that are being organized around this exhibit, including film programs, theater performances, concerts, lectures, and field trips.
Made possible by Humanities Washington, this traveling exhibit originated at the Washington State Historical Museum and has been traveling throughout the state. In Burien, the exhibit will include several additional interactive displays of items from the Highline Historical Society collections.
Funding for the new website was made possible by a $3,000 grant from 4Culture, the cultural services agency of King County.
In addition, 4Culture recently awarded the Highline Historical Society two additional grants. One will pay for upgrading inventory management systems, allowing the Society to put some of its collections online for research. Another grant makes it possible for the Society to purchase a projector that will enhance presentation capabilities.]]>
