C2C2014RaceSS-17 And…they’re off! This year’s Cove to Clover 5K started at the Normandy Park Cove beach.[/caption] Under typically soggy northwest skies, the 2014 Cove to Clove Classic 5K fundraiser race shined on the area on Sunday, March 16, filling the streets with happy runners, families, dogs and even a Unicorn Unicycle. This year’s run was a pretty competitive one that turned into a two-man race between 54-year old Ray Prentice and 23-year old Jerome Damey at the bottom of Snake Hill. Prentice held the lead up until around the 1-mile remaining marker, when Damey, who was “drifting” him, passed by and never looked back. “A week and a half ago, I had pneumonia,” Damey told The B-Town Blog after the race. “I practiced for this, but this is the first time I’ve run the actual Cove to Clover race. It was tough to beat Ray though.” Damey is a graduate of Evergreen High School, where he competed on the cross country team. Prentice has competed in numerous races and is a well-known local runner. The Top female finisher was Maryann Orwiler, 28. The oldest male runner was Wayne Long, 77, and the oldest female runner was Donna Richmond, 73. Winner of the Unicorn Unicycle division – and that division’s only entrant – was Kevin Williams. To see all results, click here. Here are the top 10 finishers of the race:
