NB-2014-invitation-BCC The Burien Community Center is now presenting “No Boundaries 2014,” an exhibit showcasing artists with disabilities, with an opening reception on Thursday, July 17 from 6 – 8 p.m. “No Boundaries” originated 23 years ago when Very Special Arts of Washington organized the 1st NW touring exhibit for artists with disabilities.  Through the years, “No Boundaries” has showcased hundreds of artists and traveled to exhibit their art in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and throughout Washington.  With the dedication of former VSAAW board president and Arts Ed Director Shariana Mundi, No Boundaries has continued beyond the life of the organization.  Now with the generous support from 4 Culture, the annual tradition continues, honoring and supporting Washington artists with disabilities, both Outsider and professional artists. “No Boundaries 2014” Living Metaphors is a celebration of our creative endeavors, of creation in action. “No Boundaries 2014” is a look at those who create, who see something in a moment, or forever, as no one has seen before.  Cultural metaphor, social metaphor or spiritual metaphor all stem from original nature, our beginnings in a natural world. Eyes that can see back to those beginnings open doors to new understanding. Through the language of metaphorical image we express perception and thought which, in turn, shape culture. Inclusive Voices painting myriad metaphors create and portray the subtleties and textures of a whole community. “Metaphor purifies and restores language to original nature.” – Claude Levi-Strauss The Burien Community Center is located at 14700 6th Ave SW.
