Story & Photos by Sterling Paris
South King Media Intern
At 13629 1st Ave South there is a health food store called ‘The Grainery’ that has been in business since March of 1981.
The Grainery is a place where you can buy natural products such as herbs, flour, gluten-free bread, grains and many other healthy things.
Another thing you can find is a man named James – he works there.
He is typically would be stocking shelves, helping customers – kind of a “jack of all trades” kind of guy they say.
He is also a very smart man.
Last week was his final week at the shop, and his retirement party was last Saturday. After working at the store off and on for the past 30 years, he became a steady employee around 2003 and has worked there since.
But now, “it’s just time to retire,” he said.
He is getting older and would like to “play.” He will still be taking care of clients that call in, as he gives great advice being certified as a Dietitian type 2.
After retirement, James also plans on working in his garden and maybe writing a book or two about the “absolute truth about nutrition.”
And maybe about life in general.
He also plans on working on his hope-to-be new business – sugar free jam and jelly – yes it sounds impossible but I think he has found a way!
He will be greatly missed at The Grainery.
Until next time,
(and thank you so much for reading)
