[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following article is another from our youngest-ever Contributor – 10-year old Isabel Herbruger – who has been submitting stories and photos as part of her effort to earn a Girl Scout badge for journalism, as well as qualify for a 4H photography project. We encourage residents of all ages to submit stories and photos for posting – for consideration, please email yours to [email protected]!] Photos and Story by Isabel Herbruger, age 10 Last Thursday (April 23), the Highline Pirates took on Lindbergh at Renton Memorial Stadium. The boys score was Pirates 23 to Lindbergh 103. For the girls it was Pirates 34 to Lindbergh 109. Kennedy was competing against Foster at the same event. There are a lot of injured Pirates right now, so the team has gotten pretty small. It was cold and wet during this meet, so it was a good one to miss. I got pretty wet taking these pictures (click images to see larger versions/slideshow): chase 4 pole-3 pre-race-talk relay-2 relay-4 relay-5 This week there was a Lady Pirate pole vaulter. It is special because there is not a place to practice pole vaulting at Highline right now. The Booster Club is working on earning money to get a pole vault place at Highline. A neat story I learned about one of the Pirate coaches is he still comes to every meet to help the Pirates even though he is really sick right now. I always see him talking to the sprinters and the hurdlers before and after races. He is always trying to get them to stretch more. Kelvin (Herbruger), who got a personal record in the mile, was always one step behind Kennedy runner, Lincoln (Marino), in the long distance races. The 4×100 relays happened during and right after a downpour. The Lady Pirates beat Lindbergh and the boys lost to them. The next meet is against Foster at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 at Renton Memorial Stadium.
