EDITOR’S NOTE: Cass Huff is a 13-year old special needs student at Burien’s Sylvester Middle School. She is also our latest columnist… by Cass Huff My name is Cassidy Huff and I will be writing ‘Cassidy’s Commentary’ – a regular column where I will be updating you on my life! I was so excited when The B-Town Blog asked me to do a regular coumn! I will be writing twice a month and later, if I feel I can do more then I might write a little bit more frequently! I will start from the beginning. I was born with a rare genetic condition called Conradi Hunermann. It affects my right eye which I’m blind out of. My right ear, which I’m deaf out of causing me to wear a hearing aid. It affects my whole right side, which is three and a half inches shorter then my left. Causing me to have to wear a prosthetic on my right leg. Most importantly, it affects my spine. Which is shaped like an S. So every six months, I have to go in for another surgery. Right now, I’m recovering from my 34th surgery. I’m not going to bore you with the details about what I can’t do. I would rather tell you what I can do. I can do pretty much anything that you can do. Sometimes, I just need to find another way to do it. Or modify it in some way. Instead of moping around all the time about my different ability, I am constantly thinking of what I can do to help other people. That’s why I’m a motivational speaker and I’m also the Honorary Development Director for the Melodic Caring Project. Melodic Caring Project is an organization that streams live music to hospitalized kids and teens. You can ask any kid that has been a part of Melodic Caring Project if they have pain while watching. Their answer will be absolutely not. For more information about Melodic Caring Project please go to https://www.melodiccaringproject.org Anyways, completely changing the subject, today (Tuesday, May 5) is my 13th birthday! When Facebook first came out I begged my mom to have it. She said that when I turned thirteen that I could have an account. So, Tuesday morning I am waking up early so that I can make a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profile! The only downfall about today is that I have a big test to take. It’s called the SBACK test and it takes a really long time to finish! But, oh well! I hope you guys have enjoyed my writing! Thanks so much for reading! Until next time! Cassidy Huff]]>
