With the documentary “Latinos in Washington” as a basis, the Highline Historical Society and Para Los Ninos (both 501 (c) 3 non-profit organizations), invite the public to participate as part of a multicultural audience to view this film at a special screening on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.Â
The screening will take place at Burien Actors Theater (14601 4th Ave SW). Families are welcome. Admission and parking are free.
Following the viewing, KCTS 9-TV’s Executive Producer Enrique Cerna will conduct a facilitated discussion, focusing on the “Latino Experience in Highline.”
Cerna will explore the differences in the acceptance of families who came to Highline many years ago and those that have recently arrived. He will assist the Highline community to understand one another’s culture and communicate more clearly with one another. Local businesses and organizations, school administrators, community leaders as well as community members should find this an interesting and relevant conversation.
Enrique Cerna is a KCTS9-TV Executive Producer from Yakima, a second generation Mexican-American. He is a 5-time regional Grammy Award Winning television producer. He is well known for his in-depth research of programs, his accuracy, his easy manner with audiences and his respectful presentations. His thoughtful examination of Latinos in Washington encouraged the Highline Historical Society to request his participation in this project.
The Highline Historical Society is developing the Highline Heritage Museum, slated to open in late 2016 in Burien. Para Los Ninos is a successful 15-year local non-profit designed to help Latino families become bi-lingual and engaged in their communities.
