ArunJhaveriPic by Mark Neuman Dr. Arun Jhaveri, Burien’s first mayor, announced Wednesday (Jan. 27) that he will run for Congress. Jhaveri told The B-Town Blog this morning that he intends to run for the 7th Congressional District seat currently held by Jim McDermott. McDermott recently announced he will retire from Congress when his current term expires in January 2017. McDermott was first elected to the seat in 1988. Jhaveri has been a Burien resident for 45 years. He is a physicist and former Boeing engineer. He worked for the federal government as a regional technology manager from 1982 to 2006. Jhaveri served as Burien’s first mayor from 1992 to 1998. He will formally announce his candidacy in early February.]]>
