Story by Octavia B., age 13 Photos by Isabel H, age 11 Over the past month, 11 of Girl Scout Troop #42263’s girls spent their free time selling cookies and collecting $2,884 in donations throughout Seattle to buy 721 boxes of cookies to donate to the White Center Food Bank’s pantry on Friday, March 25. The cookies filled a large cart and weighed over a quarter of a ton. The directors of the food bank, Rick and Audrey, are used to this troop bringing cookie donations after the yearly sale, but were delighted by the ‘mountain of cookies’ brought this year. Last year the troop collected enough donations to buy 499 boxes of cookies; this year they increased their donation by 44%! When asked, the girls said next year they have a goal of donating 1000 boxes. Thank you to everyone who said, “Keep the change” or “Here is a donation for the food bank.” You supported local Girl Scouts who gave back to our community! 1. Really makes me proud when I see our area scouts making a big difference in the community! Nothing better than feeding folks- stomache and soul.
