For about the price of a matinee movie theater ticket, you can see two brand-new plays from the creative minds of local playwrights during theÂ Seattle Playwrights Studio ShowcaseÂ in August at Burien Actors Theatre. TheÂ ShowcaseÂ offers performances fromÂ Aug. 19 through 21Â of four new shows written by playwrights from the greater Seattle area. Tickets are just $10, and each ticket includes admission to a perfomance of two plays. THE PLAYS In the hush-hush world of the undocumented, a brush with police spins out of control inÂ Undocumented,Â written by Margaret Oâ€™Donnell. Performed onÂ Aug. 19 and 21. A mother fiercely fights the painful heritage of racism to ensure a better life for her daughter, and finds how much it can divide–or uniteâ€”inÂ Andrea,Â written by Mari Salinas and directed by Roi Martin-Brown. Performed on Aug. 19. Whatâ€™s a woman to do when her date picks an ex-brothel for their first meeting?Â Anywhere but Auschwitz, written by Bruce Firestone and directed by Geoff Little, is an often wry look at the serious side of a buildingâ€™s history. Performed onÂ Aug. 19 and 20. Not Around Gordie, written by George Savage, Jr. and directed by Bruce McLean, is a comedy about progress, generational differences and young gas station employees exploring their identities in 1961 Santa Monica. Performed onÂ Aug. 20 and 21. Some of the shows are suitable for ages 13-plus due to some adult language or content. The plays are products of the Seattle Playwrights Studio workshop, which is affiliated with BAT and meets at BAT twice monthly. Performances areÂ Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m., plus a matinee on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. at Burien Actors Theatre. TheÂ SundayÂ matinee will be followed by a free reception.
