After the race, many stayed for the Bavarian Fest, a festive street party which continues to grow each year! Everyone enjoyed the good weather, main stage entertainment provided by The True Romans and many found their way to the Highline Schools Foundation Charity Beer Garden where volunteers were pouring beer graciously donated by Georgetown Brewing. The kids’ area was also popular with a bouncy house, face painting, pumpkin painting, a chalk garden and root beer garden courtesy of HMS Host. New this year, The Rave Foundation – the official charitable arm of Sounders FC – brought their newly-created Soccer Octagon to Brat Trot! The Soccer Octagon is a one of a kind, transferable, modular, pop-up cage-like playfield that allows soccer to be taken to any part of the city. The kids were invited to play soccer with Seattle Sounders FC Roger Levesque. “We are very proud to be able to produce this major event for our community. It’s about raising funds for charity, but it’s also about bringing us all together for a day of celebration! Nobody does it like Highline!” said Highline Schools Foundation Trustee and race course lead Mike Yellam. Foundation Executive Director Ashley Fosberg said “with the funds raised from Brat Trot, we can do our job of getting more kids what they need to be successful in school. From school supplies for our neediest of students, to classroom grants and athletic fees, the Foundation does it all and everything in between, and we can’t do it without community support. Thank you, Highline community!” Quotes:

  1. I’m just wondering why Highline School District needs to have fund raisers for them when my property taxes are so high to support the District. And while I’m on this rant why is it that 1st Ave So needs to be “fixed” so much (look on your utility bills it’s listed on them) and they fix only in front of the Fred Meyer area and can’t make as far north to repair on 1st and 138th St?!

    1. Thanks to all our concerned citizens who support better schools for our students.
Firstly, Highline Schools Foundation is a non profit that raises funds to supplement the inadequate state public school funding (McCleary vs. State of Washington). Next, our property tax rates on homes for schools in HSD 401 are unnecessarily high due to the largest property owner being exempt from school taxes (Port of Seattle / SeaTac Airport). Hopefully we can elect state representatives who can find a way to meet their responsibility under the state Constitution to honor Article IX …” It is the paramount duty of the state to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders…”
The fact we have organizations such as HSF raising funds for education is an indictment of both our legislators and those who keep returning them to the State government.

  2. Douglas, thank you for straightening my uninformed information so kindly and not like Scott who had to rub my nose in it like a bad puppy!
