EDITOR’S NOTE: Cass Huff is a 14-year old special needs student at Mt. Rainier High School. In 2016 she was named “Citizen of the Year” by the City of Burien. image1-2 by Cass Huff Hey B-Town Readers! Some of you commented on my last post and asked me to write a blog about Melodic Caring Project. Melodic Caring Project is a non-profit organization that was started in 2011 by Levi and Stephanie Ware. Melodic Caring Project (MCP) streams live music to hospitalized kids and teens. When my mom told me that I was going to watch a concert live on my computer, I was confused. I didn’t understand that this organization was going to change my life, until I experienced it. When the artist starting singing it felt like everything around disappeared. They call the kids the rockSTARS and the musicians the #1 fans! It just felt so special. And no two concerts were the same. Every single time it was different. I started watching the concerts and talking to people on the live chat more and more. I started looking forward to the concerts and asking my mom every day when the next one was. About six months after I watched my first concert, I was at a gala greeting people at the entrance. This man and woman approached my mom and I and my mom knew who they were. After a couple of minutes my mom says “You don’t know who they are do you?” “No.” I replied “This is Levi and Stephanie.” My mom said “They’re the ones who put on the concerts that you love so much!” I was still kind of confused. I was eight years old and this was all new to me. But I still grasped the concept that these people were making a difference in my life. Our families got close over the next couple years and I got more and more involved with MCP. About three years ago they asked me to perform at their first gala to fundraise for MCP. I sang and that year it started snowing outside! The next year and last year I co-hosted! About a year and a half ago, they asked me if I would accept the position of the Honorary Development Director. Of course, I happily accepted and I got my official business cards a couple of months ago. I can’t tell you how much Melodic Caring Project and the people that I’ve met through it mean to me. I can’t tell you how much the concerts and the musicians mean to me either. You have to experience it for yourself. If you want more information on MCP please go to https://melodiccaring.org/ Thank you so much for reading this addition of Cassidy’s Column! If you have any suggestions on what you want to write my next blog on, make sure to tell me in the comments (yes I do read all of them)! See ya next time! Over and Out!]]>
