Story & Photos by Aaron Wells Shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday night (April 8), a Burien police officer spotted an occupied stolen vehicle driving eastbound on SW 148th St. in Burien. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled from the officer southbound in the northbound lanes of 1st Ave. South with its lights out, reaching speeds of up to 70 MPH. Burien Police chose not to actively pursue the vehicle out of an abundance of caution for the safety of other drivers in the area. Shortly after breaking off contact with the vehicle, it was located by Normandy Park Police. The driver fled westbound on SW Normandy Terrace, failed to negotiate a curve, and crashed with the vehicle coming to rest upside down in the 800 block of SW Normandy Terrace (map below). Paramedics, along with police officers from Burien, Des Moines, and Normandy Park, responded to the scene and determined that the driver was not significantly injured. Officers on the scene stated that the driver appeared to be under the influence and would be transported to jail. As of 11 p.m. Sunday, SW Normandy Terrace was closed to traffic.
