The North Satellite Modernization Project is the expansion and renovation of the 45-year-old North Satellite facility at Sea-Tac Airport.
We were privileged to take a tour of the expansion Friday morning, conducted by Perry Cooper of the Port of Seattle.
The expansion should open in January 2019 and it will add eight gates to the North Satellite. Renovations will continue on the old part of the facility into 2021. The views will be spectacular with views of both Mount Rainier and the Olympics.
The total cost of the expansion and renovations will be approximately $700 million dollars, which should contribute a lot of dollars to the local economy.
The steel beams used in the project would be as high as Mount Rainier if stacked on top of each other.
This will be the closest terminal to the runways, providing amazing views of air traffic as you can see from some of our pictures.
One of the most unique aspects of the expansion is a roof that is shaped like a river as you can see in the first photo.
