Utility pole onto car in Tukwila knocks out power to thousands Friday

Utility poles that fell onto an occupied car on E. Marginal Way in Tukwila knocked out power to thousands in the south end, including a large portion of Burien on Friday afternoon, April 5.

Numerous squalls with strong wind and rain came through the area during the afternoon, but it is unknown yet whether that was related to the downed utility poles or not.

The poles fell near the Museum of Flight in Tukwila, trapping two people in a car. They were safely extracted by Tukwila Police and emergency workers. One victim had a superficial injury, and the other had non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

City Light says the outage – which happened around 3:50 p.m. – affected over 15,000 customers.

Most customers had their electricity restored around 5 p.m.

City Light reported that 24 utility poles were down over one mile of road in the area.

Seattle City Light has not yet confirmed the cause, but from the looks of the videos below, this looks pretty legit:
