On Sunday night, Oct. 20 at around 7:05 p.m., a black male wearing a gray sweatshirt entered Emerald City Smoothie in Burien, ordered a smoothie, distracted the employees, then opened the till and grabbed the money.

Police say that one of the employees tried to stop the suspect but he made a statement to her that made her feel threatened.

The suspect then fled the store with the money, got into a vehicle and left the parking lot.

“Very scary for our young employees,” Owner Janel Stoneback told The B-Town Blog. “Disturbing how many folks have commented about the crime issues in Burien that no one wants to acknowledge. Hard enough finding employees. Our landlord was forced to hire security because of the amount of crime in the busiest center in the city. The southcenter store also got hit this weekend too.”

Emerald City Smoothie is located near Safeway in the Burien Plaza at 126 SW 148th St #C170:
