The King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting about a situation that could have been a lot worse, if not for the quick actions of a Burien Police Deputy:

Police say that early Friday morning (Nov. 8, 2019) just before 1 a.m. in the 14400 block of Ambaum Blvd. SW (map below), Deputy Mark Silverstein heard shots being fired from a handgun. He then saw a white Lexus leaving a parking lot at a high rate of speed with headlights off.

Deputy Silverstein tried to stop the vehicle in his fully marked patrol car, but the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated, attempting to elude him.

At the 700 block of SW 148th Street, Deputy Silverstein was able to employ a PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) which stopped the vehicle.

The driver, a 28-year old male from Federal Way, was taken into custody without incident for a host of charges, including eluding and DUI. The suspect threw a handgun out of his window just prior to being stopped. Multiple shell casings were found in the parking lot of a bar, as well as inside of the Lexus.

Thankfully no one was injured.

“Nice job by Deputy Silverstein and other Deputies who arrived to assist on this arrest.”
