The Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday that it will be holding an open Roundtable Discussion on Monday, Dec. 16 for Burien non-profits who will be displaced by the abrupt closure of the Burien Annex (read our previous coverage here).

“The Chamber prides itself on being able to provide comprehensive information, education, and opportunity for engagement for our members and our community,” the chamber said in a statement. “It is in that spirit of service that we are proud to offer an opportunity for the community to come together to discuss and explore solutions to the closure and relocation of the non-profits currently being displaced by the City of Burien’s decision to close the Annex.”

The City of Burien’s announcement about the Annex closure is here.

“We recognize the tremendous value and services these organizations have provided over a long period of time to the Burien community. They have been essential to our success as a city today,” said Brian J. Wilson, Burien City Manager. “It was a very difficult decision to close the Annex building, but it is our duty to ensure the safety of the people of all ages who use the facility. We are committed to helping these Burien organizations stay in Burien and continue to serve the Burien community.”

This invitation to the roundtable is open to all, is at no cost, and will provide an opportunity to learn and give feedback on potential solutions. Space is limited at this roundtable, so please RSVP early to ensure your seat is saved. Register by clicking here.

CHAMBER STARTS GOFUNDME
In recognition of their members and seven non-profits that provide so much benefit to the Burien community, the Chamber is focused on providing relocation and services to all the displaced organizations. They have even set up a GoFundMe page here, where they are collecting funds to help with relocation costs. Funds will be held in a segregated account and distributed evenly amongst the impacted organizations.

“We hope that together as a community we can find a new home for our nonprofits so that they can continue to do the amazing work they do,” Chamber President/CEO Andrea H. Reay said. “We are better and stronger when we come together. I invite the community to please come together now and be part of the solution.”
