In front of a standing room only City Hall, the Burien City Council on Monday night re-elected incumbent Jimmy Matta again as Mayor, and Krystal Marx as Deputy Mayor.

Matta will serve two years, through Dec. 31, 2021, and Marx will serve through Dec., 2020.

Matta’s election was unanimous, after Councilmember Nancy Tosta announced that – despite a recent outpouring of public support – that she would not be seeking the Mayoral spot this year, but would instead support Matta.

Tosta then announced that she would be interested in the Deputy Mayor role, but lost to Krystal Marx in a 5-2 vote.

In addition to that, a swearing-in ceremony of new councilmembers was conducted by the Honorable David Christie, King County District Court Judge:

    • Sofia Aragon (Pos. 6)
    • Cydney Moore (Pos. 2)
    • Kevin Schilling (Pos. 4)
