The Burien City Council will hold an Emergency Special Meeting on Thursday night, Jan. 16, 2020, to discuss pollutant testing results for the Burien Community Center Annex.

As we’ve previously reported, the Annex is scheduled to close down on Jan. 31, 2020, evicting seven non-profit organizations.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at Burien City Hall.

The specific Council direction to City Manager Brian Wilson on Jan. 6, 2020 was as follows:

“City Manager is to authorize testing for pollutants in the Annex immediately. If testing results are within safe limits, the City Manager is directed to immediately enter into lease renewals for all current Annex tenants for terms up to six months. If the test results find that levels of lead, mold, or asbestos are not within safe limits, the City Manager is directed not to take action but to convene an Emergency meeting of the City Council as soon as possible thereafter to discuss options and actions.”

“Following the call to order, the Mayor will recess the meeting into Executive Session for at least one hour,” the city said. “If an extension is needed, the Mayor will come back to the chambers to notify the public that Executive Session is being extended, and for how long. Council will not reconvene the meeting any earlier than 8:00 p.m. Once reconvened, Council will be discussing and taking final action on the topic. Per the Burien City Council Guidelines Public Comment is not taken at Special Meetings of the City Council.”

Here’s the agenda for the meeting:
