On Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, the City of Burien released the following update, which includes links to pollutant testing reports done at the Burien Annex:

After reviewing results of testing for asbestos, lead, and mold in the Burien Community Center Annex, the Burien City Council directed the City Manager to extend the leases for tenants of the Burien Annex Building until the end of July 2020, with the option of tenants of going month to month until July 2020. This decision was made after a lengthy discussion in executive session.

On January 7, 2020, the City hired Terracon to conduct testing for asbestos, lead, and mold. Their assessment reveals unsafe levels of asbestos, lead, and mold in some areas of the Burien Annex. The City will conduct repairs to address immediate health and safety issues. The cost of these repairs is not to exceed $25,000. Any repairs to issues that do not present immediate life safety concerns, or repairs that cost more than $25,000, must be authorized by Council first.
