The Highline Schools Foundation announced on Friday that it will be cancelling its upcoming Gold Star Awards BASH event, originally set for next Tuesday, March 10.

Instead, organizers will be holding a Facebook live event where they will recognize nominees and announce winners. This will start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Here’s more from the foundation:

Dear Gold Star Nominators, Nominees, and those who have purchased tickets for Tuesday’s Event

I have tried to find every way possible to move forward with the Gold Star BASH on Tuesday evening. However, after again reviewing the Health Department recommendations and knowing that the district is cancelling all programming after 5:00 p.m., I have decided that the prudent thing to do would be to cancel our event. We will not be holding the event at the SeaTac Community Center. Instead, we will be holding a Facebook live event where we will recognize the nominees and announce the winners. This will start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Please join us through our Facebook Page located HERE to be part of the fun!

Why cancel instead of postpone? At this point, recommendations are to cancel things until late March. The timing of the BASH in early March allows us to invite all winners to the Gold Star breakfast and gives them plenty of time to make arrangements so that they can be at this event. Postponing the event does not work.

On Wednesday, I will be heading out throughout the district to deliver certificates to all the nominees and deliver prizes to the winners. My hope is to deliver all of these on Wednesday – but give me until Thursday in case it takes an extra day. For those of you who are not district employees, I will deliver your certificates to the school where you volunteer or mail it to you (if I have your mailing address.)

If you paid for a ticket for the BASH, there are two options:

    1. If you would like to change the cost of the ticket into a donation to the Highline Schools Foundation, we will send you a tax receipt for your donation and your funds will be used to support the work of the Foundation.
    2. If you would like a refund, please let me know via email and I will get those processed early next week.

“I am so sorry to have to do this. The BASH is my favorite event of the year. There is nothing that I enjoy more than to celebrate the amazing work happening throughout the district,” Executive Director Anne Baunach said. “Thank you for your understanding.”
