Your Daily Dose of Natural Beauty, courtesy Advertiser Zenith Holland Nursery – White Delphiniums Bring Height to Floral Beds and Borders:
Consider the Delphinium, today’s star for the garden. This midsize perennial is found in a spectrum of colors from white to pink to purple to blue. They are prized for their spikes of colorful blooms which typically flower from early to mid summer. Delphinium burst on the scene with dense buds clustered tightly along the stalk. Their vertical growth pattern makes them a nice choice along fence lines where they can serve as a lovely backdrop for lower growing blooms of contrasting colors.
We can’t help but think of English cottage gardens when we spy their cheerful petals.
Delphinium prefer cooler summers and well drained soil. They can be planted in full sun to light shade and need protection from winds. Staking is also needed to support the stalks upright growth. Lest you be tempted to cast them as just another pretty face, delphinium will delight you by bringing the added benefit of attracting pollinators in the garden. As a genus with over 300 species, Delphinium offer numerous choices for the home gardener to try.
