In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Portland-based non-profit Medical Teams International recently shifted their entire organization’s efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and support local health systems responding.

This Wednesday, April 29, 2020, Medical Teams will be holding an Emergency Dental Clinic at Transform Burien, serving people experiencing homelessness or living in an unstable living situation.

WHERE: Transform Burien, 4th Ave SW between SW 144th Street and SW 146th Street.

WHEN: Open Wednesday, April 29, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From donating thousands of PPEs to local hospitals, supporting COVID-19 screening sites, launching emergency dental clinics and more, Medical Teams is actively assessing the situation and looking for ways to help locally and prepare their international offices.

With dentist offices closed these clinics are operating across Washington and Oregon with the goal to ease stress on an already burdened healthcare system—freeing beds at local hospitals and helping those with urgent pains.

The emergency dental clinics will have additional screening components modeling after the COVID-19 testing sites—keeping patients distanced/in cars to screen for symptoms and temperature. Health histories and blood pressure will also be taken at the Mobile Dental Van.

Patients will be called in for treatment from their cars or an approved open air waiting area.
