Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Burien residents have sought out quality local journalism, and most turn to the free coverage provided by The B-Town (Burien) Blog.

Sunday, May 3, 2020 is ‘World Press Freedom Day,’ which acts as a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom and is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom, survival and professional ethics. In recognition of this important global day of remembrance, The New York Times has made a call to the public for support of local journalism. We were gratified to be included in this call as members of the Local Independent Online News (LION) Publishers.THANKS to all our Readers, Advertisers & Supporters on 'World Press Freedom Day' 1

The B-Town (Burien) Blog has been providing quality award-winning ‘hyperlocal’ news since 2007, recognized by our peers at the Society of Professional Journalists as ‘Best Hyperlocal News Website’ for two consecutive years. Our coverage (now expanded to include 6 other local websites via South King Media) brings relevant local reporting of issues that matter to you as a member of our region – including extensive coverage of COVID-19 – at no charge to Readers, based on advertising from local businesses and the recent addition of generous support from readers through our PressPatron support campaign.

From Mar. 1 – April 30, 2020, The B-Town Blog posted a total of 219 stories, 209 of which were related to COVID-19.

We continue to see colleagues and fellow publications suffer during this pandemic, which has caused a major shift in ad spending. Just last week, a fellow community news publisher announced yet another round of layoffs amounting to the furlough/release of 70 employees. We are grateful that we anticipate less aggressive impacts to our small business. However, your support at this time will continue to be important as we navigate the new normal. Please consider becoming a monthly supporter at whatever level makes sense for you.

Your direct support will help us to continue to bring valuable local news free to all.

On this occasion, we’d like to extend a heartfelt
THANKS to all our Readers, Advertisers and Supporters!
