Fourteen local students will receive scholarship awards at the Des Moines Dollars for Scholars annual reception on May 27, 2020.

Due to social distancing protocols, the reception will be a ‘drive through’ and will also be live-streamed on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/DMD4S.

Scholarships are awarded to students who volunteer time to their communities, excel in academics, participate in extracurricular activities, and are entering or attending an accredited university, college or technical school.

The following students are this year’s award winners:

Highline High School:

    • Lily Duong of Burien was awarded the Recology Cleanscapes Scholarship. Lily plans on attending Western Washington University.
    • Miguel Estevez Osorio of SeaTac was awarded the Steven J. Underwood Memorial Scholarship. Miguel plans on attending Western Washington University.
    • Dalia Lopez Barraza of Burien was awarded the Geraldine Sorensen Scholarship. Dalia plans on attending the University of Washington.
    • Evaya McAfee-Coe of Burien was awarded the Clark and Marilyn Snure Memorial Scholarship. Evaya plans on attending Ventura College, California.

Mount Rainier High School:

    • Heven Ambachew of SeaTac was awarded a Des Moines-Normandy Park Rotary Scholarship. Heven plans on attending Pacific Lutheran University.
    • Dulcemaria Baez of Normandy Park was awarded the Des Moines Yacht Club First Mates Jean Atwell Memorial Scholarship. Dulcemaria plans on attending the University of Washington.
    • Nicole Baker of Des Moines was awarded the Southwest Seattle Business and Professional Women Scholarship. Nicole plans on attending Seattle Pacific University.
    • Hamreet Kaur of SeaTac was awarded the Des Moines Yacht Club First Mates Margaret Moreau Memorial Scholarship. Hamreet plans on attending the University of Washington.
    • Morelia Aguiniga Martinez of SeaTac was awarded a Des Moines Dollars for Scholars Scholarship. Morelia plans on attending the University of Washington.
    • Minh Quan Nguyen of Kent was awarded the Des Moines Yacht Club First Mates Toni Overmyer Memorial Scholarship. Minh plans on attending the University of Washington.
    • Thien-An Nguyen of Kent was awarded the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Ronald Millheisler Memorial Scholarship. Thien-An plans on attending the University of Washington.
    • Truong Minh Ngoc Pham of Des Moines was awarded the BJ and Anna Bjorneby Scholarship. Truong plans on attending Seattle Central College.
    • Sujata Rai of Des Moines was awarded a Des Moines Dollars for Scholars Scholarship. Sujata plans on attending the University of Washington.

Federal Way High School:

    • Noah Pawlowski of Des Moines was awarded Des Moines-Normandy Park Rotary Scholarship. Noah plans on attending Linfield College, Oregon.
