DESCRIPTION:Burien’s fall 2026 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Course\, an in-person training program for people who want to learn disaster response skills\, begins Wednesday\, Sept. 9. \nThe Burien CERT Basic Course will meet from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Fire Station #28 in Burien each Wednesday beginning Sept. 9\, with a final drill scheduled for Saturday\, Nov. 7\, according to course information. \nParticipants are asked to attend each session\, and a CERT certificate of completion will be awarded after the training and final drill are completed. \nThe Community Emergency Response Team Program educates individuals in disaster preparedness for hazards that may affect the community. \n“CERT training is for everyone. There is a job for everyone\,” according to the course announcement. \nTraining will cover basic disaster response skills\, including fire safety\, search and rescue\, team organization and disaster medical operations. Organizers said the skills learned in class and during exercises can help CERT members assist others in their neighborhoods or workplaces after an emergency when professional responders are not immediately available. \nThe course is open to people who live or work in the City of Burien.
