CANCELED: ‘Vote with Pride’ continues at Burien Library this Sunday, Oct. 18
October 18 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
UPDATE Oct. 18, 2020: Seattle Pride’s Vote with Pride campaign at the Burien Library – scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, from Noon – 4 p.m. – has been CANCELED.
With just a few weeks to go until election day, this weekly pop-up event is an effort to grow LGBTQIA+ voter registration and participation.
“Given the huge response we saw in just our first weekend, plus the calls we’ve received from people outside of Seattle requesting Vote with Pride signs, we’ve decided to expand our presence to two additional weekly pop-up locations beginning next Sunday,” said Seattle Pride Board President Alex Ruble.
The pop-up will continue from Noon to 4 p.m. each Sunday through Nov. 1, with Seattle Pride volunteers outside on the north side of the Burien Library (map below) near the parking lot, registering voters, offering U.S. Census forms, and distributing free Vote with Pride Voter Kits (including yard signs, window signs, campaign stickers and more) – as well as “Pride Packs” provided in partnership with promotional partner MOViN 92.5 and morning personality Brooke Fox.
“The LGBTQIA+ community has made great strides in recent years, but now human rights in all forms are being challenged at every turn – so we need to come together with a powerful voice, and it comes in the form of a ballot,” said Ruble.
- The event will observe all COVID-19 safety protocols with volunteers provided with personal protective equipment.
- Signs will also direct people to a drive-up, contact-free option for those who wish to drive into a reserved section of the street and simply pop their trunk so volunteers can distribute the signs without people having to leave the comfort and safety of their vehicles.
- Seattle Pride plans to distribute 3,000 signs throughout the campaign.
“With these campaign signs we want our LGBTQIA+ citizens to be able to demonstrate their pride, and to have our neighbors take notice that collectively we are a sizable voting contingent,” Ruble added.
