DESCRIPTION:The DESC Burien Community Advisory Committee (CAC) announced this week that the public is invited to attend and observe committee discussions beginning at its next meeting this Tuesday\, Feb. 13\, 2024\, from 5–6:30 p.m. \nEach meeting will include a set time for questions and answers. \n“The CAC is committed to transparency\, community involvement and fostering meaningful discussions\,” organizers said. \nThe first open meeting is set for Tuesday\, Feb. 13\, 2024\, from 5-6:30 p.m.\, at Navos’ Revelle Hall\, 1210 SW 136th Street\, Burien (map below). \nThe CAC brings DESC and the community together to identify\, discuss and act on issues of neighborhood concern in connection with DESC’s Burien permanent supportive housing project nearing completion at 801 SW 150th Street. \nTopics for discussion may include the building design\, program model\, services offered to tenants and interactions among tenants\, DESC staff and the surrounding neighbors. The committee will make recommendations to DESC about addressing issues they identify. \nThe CAC meets every second Tuesday of the month\, from 5-6:30 p.m.\, at Revelle Hall\, Navos Mental Health and Wellness Center\, 1210 SW 136th Street\, Burien. \nBurien community members are Nancy Kick\, Carrie Ly\, Project Manager of Sea Mar Burien/White Center\, Aaron Burkhalter with LEAD\, NAVOS Chief Operating Officer Sarah Coleman\, Director of Discover Burien Debra George\, Latino Civic Alliance Board Chair Nina Martinez and Project Manager of Kent Sea Mar Ricardo del Fierro. \nDESC staff members include Executive Director Daniel Malone\, Director of Housing Noah Fay\, Executive Coordinator Maria Jacinto\, Director of Property Development Sondra Nielsen\, Housing Development Coordinator Akhil Arun\, Construction Coordinator Christopher Ledestich and Community Engagement Coordinator Mateo Chavez. \nAgendas are posted three to seven days before a meeting\, on the DESC Burien CAC web page. \nDownload the agenda for the Feb. 13 meeting here (PDF file). \nQ & A will follow established ground rules\, with flexibility on time limits.
