SUMMARY:Volunteers needed for MLK Day of Service habitat restoration at North SeaTac Park on Monday\, Jan. 19
DESCRIPTION:Green SeaTac will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service restoration and cleanup event at North SeaTac Park on Monday\, Jan. 19\, and all are invited. \nVolunteers are needed for this event\, which will run from 10 a.m. to Noon and will be led by SeaTac Forest Steward Caitlin Konya. \nThe effort will focus on restoring park habitat through removal of invasive plants and trail area cleanup\, according to Green SeaTac. \nPlanned activities include: \n\nPulling ivy\, digging out blackberry plants\, mulching and cleaning up litter\, as well as mulching newly planted trees within the park.\nThe event is open to volunteers of all ages\, and no prior experience is required.\nParticipants are encouraged to wear clothes they do not mind getting dirty\, sturdy closed toed shoes\, long sleeves and pants\, and to bring a water bottle.\nAll tools\, gloves and training will be provided.\nThe event will take place rain or shine.\n\nVolunteers will meet in the planting zone south of the parking lot in the northwest corner of the park\, off Des Moines Memorial Drive. Participants should look for a sign in table and tools at the meeting location. \nParking will be available in the northwest corner of North SeaTac Park off Des Moines Memorial Drive (map below). Additional parking will be available at Sunset Park at 13800 16th Ave S. Volunteers may park in the lot or along the shoulder of 16th Ave South and walk north to cross South 136th Street\, following posted event signage. \nThe event is part of the annual MLK Day of Service\, which encourages community members to honor the day through volunteer work that supports local communities and public spaces. \nFor more details\, click here or email caitlinakonya@gmail.com.

DESCRIPTION:Green Burien will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service volunteer restoration event on Monday\, Jan. 19\, supporting Salmon Creek Ravine Park as a healthy urban forest. \nThe event – which will run from 1:30 – 4 p.m. – will focus on removing common ivy to help native plants and wildlife thrive\, according to Green Burien. \nThe volunteer effort is open to participants of all ages\, and tools and gloves will be provided. \nGreen Burien said safety will be a priority and advised participants to check their email on the day of the event for updates in case of high winds. \nVolunteers are asked to bring bottled water and wear clothing that protects arms and legs\, closed toed shoes suitable for getting dirty and weather appropriate attire in case of rain. \nParticipants will meet at the Salmon Creek Ravine Park entrance near the Salmon Creek Treatment Plant on Shorewood Drive Southwest. Organizers will wait 10 minutes before walking into the site together.
