DESCRIPTION:Downtown Burien shoppers will have a new way to explore local businesses this Saturday\, Feb. 7\, during the “Charm Crawl\,” a self guided event that combines retail stops with a collectible charm bracelet activity. \nAccording to Discover Burien\, the event will run from Noon to 5 p.m. at various locations throughout downtown Burien. \n“It’s part shopping\, part adventure\, and totally charming\,” according to organizers. \nParticipants will visit 10 participating businesses to collect unique charms and build a custom bracelet. \nTicket Information\n\n$40 per person\n\nYour ticket includes: \n\nA charm bracelet\n1 starter charm\nAccess to 10 participating locations to collect unique charms\nA final stop to trade charms and have your bracelet assembled\n\nEach location will offer a different charm\, making every bracelet unique. \nOrganizers describe the crawl as part shopping and part adventure\, designed to encourage residents to discover and support local Burien businesses while creating a personalized keepsake. \nParticipants will check in at their starting location to receive their bracelet and starter charm\, then travel at their own pace between the 10 businesses. The event concludes at a final assembly location where charms can be traded and bracelets completed. \nDiscover Burien said the full list of participating businesses and the final assembly location will be announced closer to the event date. DESCRIPTION:The Highline Heritage Museum will host a public talk on the history and impact of protest by Black athletes at 1 p.m. Saturday\, Feb. 7\, featuring University of Puget Sound professor LaToya Brackett. \nThe program\, titled “Platforms for Protest: When Black Athletes Speak Up\,” will examine historic and contemporary examples of athletes using public visibility to address social and political issues\, from Olympic podium protests to statements made during modern professional sports careers. \nThe museum said the talk will explore how protest has been defined\, the goals behind it and the approaches used within the African American community. \nBrackett is an associate professor of African American studies at the University of Puget Sound and serves on the leadership team of the Race and Pedagogy Institute\, according to event materials. She holds two degrees in Black studies from Cornell University and Michigan State University and is described as an interdisciplinarian whose work centers the Black experience. \nThe event is part of the “America at 250th: Honoring History.
