SUMMARY:33rd District lawmakers to host Town Hall Sunday\, Feb. 22 at Highline College
DESCRIPTION:Lawmakers representing Washington’s 33rd Legislative District will host a community town hall from 2 – 3:15 p.m. on Sunday\, Feb. 22\, at Highline College\, offering residents an opportunity to hear updates from Olympia and ask questions about issues affecting south King County. \nState Sen. Tina Orwall and state Reps. Mia Gregerson and Edwin Obras are scheduled to provide legislative updates and engage directly with constituents during the event. \nThe free event will run from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the Mt. Townsend Room in Building 8\, the Student Union\, at Highline College (map below). The event is open to the public\, and community members are encouraged to arrive early to secure seating. \nThe 33rd Legislative District includes Burien\, Des Moines\, SeaTac\, and Normandy Park\, along with most of Tukwila\, southern portions of Renton and parts of Kent. \nLawmakers will take questions and engage in discussions about issues affecting the region. \nOrwall has represented the 33rd District since 2009 and was appointed to the Washington State Senate in 2024 after serving 15 years in the House of Representatives. Her work has included efforts on rape kit reform\, suicide prevention\, anti trafficking laws\, consumer protections\, language access in schools and air quality. She has more than 20 years of experience in the public mental health system\, workforce development and affordable housing. \nGregerson\, a Highline College alumna\, was first appointed to the Legislature in 2013 and previously served as mayor of SeaTac from 2008 to 2015. She helped lead the nation’s first $15 minimum wage initiative\, passed in Seattle in 2014 and later adopted by jurisdictions across the country. \nObras was appointed in December 2024 and serves on the Health Care and Wellness\, Labor and Workplace Standards and Community Safety committees. An immigrant from the Philippines and first generation college graduate\, Obras has more than 25 years of experience in human services\, including work focused on homelessness\, anti hunger programs\, youth development and services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

DESCRIPTION:BAT Theatre’s production of “Rossum’s Universal Robots” (R.U.R.) continues through Mar. 8\, bringing a century old satire about artificial intelligence to south King County audiences. \nWritten in 1920 by Karel Čapek\, R.U.R. explores a future in which robots free humans to pursue “things such as perfecting themselves rather than toiling long days just for bread.” The play is widely regarded as a cautionary tale about technology and humanity. \nIn promotional materials\, BAT Theatre describes the production as a sharp witted and provocative work with “eerie relevance to today’s AI boom.” \n“AI is on the rise. Written in 1920\, this brilliant satire examines what could happen when robots free humans to pursue “…things such as perfecting themselves rather than toiling long days just for bread.
