SUMMARY:Lace up for Burien’s free Walk-n-Talk through secret passageways on Sunday\, Mar. 1
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \nOh! Everybody loves a secret pathway! Well…it’s not so secret for the neighbors that live in the area\, but let’s explore and enjoy it together. \nDate: Sunday\, Mar. 1\, 2026 (Rain or shine… but SUNSHINE is forecast!)\nTime: Meet-up at 2:00. Walking starts at 2:15.\nPlace: Meet at the New Start Community Garden\, aka the “Shark Garden”.\n614 SW 120th St.\, Burien\, WA 98146\nWho: Open to all walkers\, welcome to do all or part of the walk\, and all may go at their own pace.\nRoute: (See the map below.) We’ll meet at the Shark Garden (there’s plenty of parking). Then we’ll proceed west on SW 120th St. until we get to 8th Ave. SW. From there\, we head south on 8th until it looks like we can go no further… but we’ll walk alongside the lichen-covered vehicles\, along the path through the underbrush! (You’d never know it’s there!) We come back out to the paved street for about 5 blocks\, then more hidden pathway. We finally come back out of the brush and get to SW 132nd\, where we head east\, pass Hazel Valley Elementary\, cross 4th Ave. SW and keep going to 2nd Ave. SW. We’ll turn north\, wave hello to Mary and Joseph\, head up to 130th\, then west back to the 8th Ave. SW passageway\, and retrace our steps back to the Shark Garden. There are a few short patches of sidewalks\, and a few short sloping stretches\, up and down. Total distance is 2.5 miles. \nOnce back at the Shark Garden\, everyone’s encouraged to stroll through and admire the Community Garden plots to see what plants are starting to grow. And don’t forget to admire all the art created by students and installed on the fence along the road! \nThis route was revealed to me by a nearby resident and walk/bike advocate. There’s talk of “improving” this to encourage its use as a north-south route for walkers and cyclists (avoiding Ambaum and 4th Ave. SW) \nThis is a FREE event and is enjoyable for all\, including friendly four-legged friends. Every month since August 2011\, neighbors and Burien city visitors have gathered\, walked and talked for fun\, conversation and exercise. Come join the group! Chat with someone you wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to meet with. If you have a pedometer or other sort of step-counter\, bring it along. Let’s see how many steps we can tally. \nCheck out our tip sheet: “Start Walking for Health and Well-Being”. \n(Please click on the map for a larger view\, then print it out if you’d like to bring it with you on the walk.) \n\n\n\nIntentions for Burien’s Walk-n-Talk:\n\n“Encourage active living to support physical and mental health.”
(Part of Burien’s “Vision”.)\nInitiate conversation between friends and neighbors\, new and old.\n\nFor further information\, please jot us a note: info@wabiburien.org

SUMMARY:BAT Theatre's 'Rossum’s Universal Robots' continues through Mar. 8
DESCRIPTION:BAT Theatre’s production of “Rossum’s Universal Robots” (R.U.R.) continues through Mar. 8\, bringing a century old satire about artificial intelligence to south King County audiences. \nWritten in 1920 by Karel Čapek\, R.U.R. explores a future in which robots free humans to pursue “things such as perfecting themselves rather than toiling long days just for bread.” The play is widely regarded as a cautionary tale about technology and humanity. \nIn promotional materials\, BAT Theatre describes the production as a sharp witted and provocative work with “eerie relevance to today’s AI boom.” \n“AI is on the rise. Written in 1920\, this brilliant satire examines what could happen when robots free humans to pursue “…things such as perfecting themselves rather than toiling long days just for bread. With sharp wit\, provocative ideas\, and eerie relevance to today’s AI boom\, Čapek’s prescient masterpiece is a cautionary tale for all.” \nPerformance Schedule/Location\nPerformances are on Friday and Saturday nights\, as well as Sunday afternoon\, and continue through Sunday\, Mar. 8\, 2026. \n\nFriday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. (NOTE: there will be no performances on Friday\, Feb. 20 and Friday\, Feb. 27).\nSunday performances start at 2 p.m.\nShow run time is approximately two hours with an intermission.\n\nAll student tickets are always $5. Additionally\, if ticket prices are a barrier\, please email info@BATtheatre.org. These deals are sponsored in part by 4Culture through the Public Free Access project. \nBurien Actors Theatre performances are at the Theater at Kennedy Catholic High School\, 140 S. 140th St.\, Burien\, WA 98168 (map below). \nThere is plenty of free on-site parking—follow the signs into the parking lot and around the buildings to the entrance\, which is in back. \nBuy Tickets Online Here
