SUMMARY:Marina Mercantile counts down the days until closing May 9
DESCRIPTION:SPONSORED: \nMarina Mercantile in Des Moines has announced that their final day will be Saturday\, May 9\, the day before Mother’s Day. \n“We are serving Spring Tea in the afternoon that day\, then hosting a private Celebration of Life from 4-7\, which seems very fitting. After that\, we will host our very own ‘Closing Ceremonies’ party from 8 p.m. May 9 until it’s over\,” says Mercantile proprietor Brenda Sutherland. \n“In the meantime\, we’re still here\, still having fun\, and giving folks a last chance for Afternoon Tea\, Sunday Brunch\, and craft cocktails and dinner\, not to mention 25% off a great selection still of wine and tinned fish” adds her husband and co-owner Richard Mockler. “And we’d love to see you.” \nThe Merc is currently taking reservations for their well-loved Seasonal Tea\, with a Spring theme closing out the next three weeks. And their full menu of charcuterie\, flatbreads\, steaks\, burgers\, and specials like the Spicy Vegan Sloppy Joe\, along with Craft Cocktails from bartender Katy Harrison\, is still available through the 9th of May. \n“We also have two Sundays of Brunch service left\,” notes Mockler\, “and a Free Mimosa for everyone who orders a brunch dish!” \n\n\n\nWhile the Mercantile in its current form is closing\, the couple both note that they retain their love for food\, wine\, and the chance to share them with people. They are currently exploring a variety of options for ways to stay engaged with all three after they get a brief break. \n“We still have a business license\, the Marina Mercantile name (and Tako the World’s Happiest Octopus as our mascot)\, and\, most important\, our relationships with our customers and with some amazing distributors and makers of delicious and delightful things\,” according to Mockler. \nAmong the things the couple is considering: \n\nCheese and Charcuterie Buying Clubs (starting with continuing to make sure folks in South King County can get Cougar Gold at a decent price!)\nOngoing maintenance online of their Tinned Fish collection – perhaps with local pickup or delivery\nPartnering with another business to continue the Marina Mercantile Wine Club (“We won’t have a liquor license\, but\, you know\, we know people …” notes Sutherland.)\nPop-up Afternoon Tea events\n\nEven as they begin to wind down the Merc itself\, the duo is eager to hear from folks about the things they will miss that maybe could carry on in some form. \nTo add your two cents\, email info@marinamercantile.com. \n\nHOURS: WED+THU: 1:30-10:00 | FRI+SAT 1:30-11:00 | SUN 11:00-3:00\nWINE TASTING: Thursday 6 p.m.\nCLOSING CEREMONIES: Saturday\, May 9\, 8 p.m.– It’s Over.\n\nFor more info\, visit https://marinamercantile.com\, “Like” them on Facebook here\, Instagram here\, call (206) 651-7526\, or email info@marinamercantile.com. \nMarina Mercantile\, Life Gets Better.™ \nMarina Mercantile is located at 22341 Marine View Drive South\, Des Moines: \n \nEDITOR’S NOTE: Sponsored Posts like this are paid\, “Native Advertisements” that help businesses and organizations improve their internet presence and all-important SEO. SUMMARY:Volunteers needed for forest restoration at White Center Heights Park on Saturday\, May 9
DESCRIPTION:King County Parks is inviting volunteers to help restore forest health at White Center Heights Park during a community work party on Saturday\, May 9. \nThe event will run from 9 a.m. to Noon and focus on removing invasive blackberry plants\, which can form dense monocultures that crowd out native species\, according to the King County Parks Volunteer Program. \nOrganizers said the effort is aimed at improving the park’s ecosystem and creating space for native plants to thrive. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate\, and no prior experience is required. \nKing County Parks will provide tools\, supplies and on site guidance\, teaching participants how to safely remove invasive plants and support restoration efforts. \nThe event also offers an opportunity for community members to connect with neighbors while contributing to the health of a local green space in the White Center area. \nParticipants are encouraged to register in advance through the King County Parks Volunteer Program website here.

SUMMARY:Highline Public Schools families invited to form literacy coalition at May 9 meeting in Tukwila
DESCRIPTION:Families across the Highline School District are being invited to a May 9 meeting in Tukwila to help launch a new parent-led coalition focused on literacy\, math and technology in local schools. \nThe Highline Literacy and Learning Coalition plans to hold its first meeting at 3 p.m. Saturday\, May 9\, in the Tukwila Library meeting room\, according to organizer Lauren Schmidt\, a Highline elementary parent and literacy advocate. \nThe group aims to connect families interested in evidence based instruction\, learn together about educational research and best practices\, and collaborate to support and advocate for strong instructional practices in the district. \nOrganizers said the first meeting will focus on introductions and allow families to share the issues and priorities most important to them. The event is open to families with students in elementary\, middle and high school\, as well as community members\, teachers and staff. \nThe gathering is designed to be family friendly\, with students and children welcome to attend and use library resources during the discussion. \nSchmidt said her involvement in the effort grew from her experience filing a formal instructional materials complaint last fall regarding the use of three cueing in the district’s K 5 English language arts program. \nThose unable to attend the meeting can sign up to receive updates through a contact form\, according to the organizers. \nThe Tukwila Library is located at 14380 Tukwila International Blvd.:
