SUMMARY:Public comment period for Port of Seattle’s Draft EIS for airport SAMP runs through July 21
DESCRIPTION:The Port of Seattle announced that the public comment period is now underway for the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) Near-Term Projects (NTPs) at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). \nThe 60-day public comment period began May 22\, 2026 and will run through July 21\, 2026 at 4 p.m. PDT \nHere’s more info from the Port: \n\nSEA serves as a gateway for the over 8 million people who live in our state\, and for the 1 million more expected to move to the Puget Sound by 2035. To meet our region’s future needs and support a great traveler experience\, the Port of Seattle proposed a plan to guide future development for the airport. The planned projects will not only make SEA more efficient but will include benefits for people using and working at the airport\, as well as provide transportation improvements in and around the airport. \nThe DEIS is a crucial step under the SEPA process. This process ensures that public agencies assess the environmental impacts of proposed actions and provide opportunities for public input. \nComments should provide sufficient detail for the agency to understand the commenter’s position and why the issues raised are important to the decision-making process. Public comments can be submitted online\, by email\, by regular mail\, or in person at one of the four in-person public meetings taking place in June. The same information will be presented at all meetings in an open house format. Language translation assistance will be available at all public meetings in addition to childcare services. \nWe encourage you to visit the SAMP website to explore details about SAMP\, the proposed NTPs\, the SEPA process\, and how to participate during the public comment period. Your feedback is valuable to us! Sign up for future updates. \n\nPublic meeting information\n\n\n\n\nDate\nTime\nLocation\n\n\n\n\nMonday\, June 22\, 2026\n6–8 p.m.\nGlacier Middle School\nEntrance lobby/commons\n2450 S 142nd St.\, SeaTac\, WA 98168\n\n\nTuesday\, June 23\, 2026\n6–8 p.m.\nMount Rainier High School\nCafeteria space\n22450 19th Ave. S\, Des Moines\, WA 98198\n\n\nThursday\, June 25\, 2026\n6–8 p.m.\nWildwood Elementary School\nMultipurpose room\n2405 S 300th St.\, Federal Way\, WA 98003\n\n\nSaturday\, June 27\, 2026\n10 a.m.–12 p.m.\nGregory Heights Elementary School\nCafeteria and gym\n16201 16th Ave. SW\, Burien\, WA 98166\n\n\n\n\nPhysical copies of the SEPA DEIS can be viewed at: \n\nThe Conference Center at SEA\, 17801 International Blvd.\, SeaTac\, WA 98158\nPort of Seattle Headquarters\, Pier 69\, 2711 Alaskan Way\, Seattle\, WA 98121\nBurien Library\, 400 SW 152nd St.\, Suite 100\, Burien\, WA 98166\nDes Moines Library\, 21620 11th Ave. S\, Des Moines\, WA 98198\nValley View Library\, 17850 Military Road S\, SeaTac\, WA 98188\nFederal Way 320th Library\, 848 S 320th St.\, Federal Way\, WA 98003\nWhite Center Library\, 1409 SW 107th St.\, Seattle\, WA 98146\nTukwila Library\, 14380 Tukwila International Blvd.\, Tukwila\, WA 98168\nVashon Library\, 17210 Vashon Hwy. SUMMARY:‘Free Tree Point’ Giveaway Days returns weekend of June 27 & 28 to Three Tree Point
DESCRIPTION:The beloved Giveaway Days event returns to Burien’s Three (aka “FREE”) Tree Point on Saturday and Sunday\, June 27 & 28\, 2026\, offering residents a chance to declutter\, donate\, and discover free household items. \nNow in its fourth year\, the community event echoes the success of previous events\, where hundreds turned out to Burien’s Three Tree Point neighborhood to take or leave everything from furniture and kitchenware to toys and tools and more. \n“Place items you don’t want along the road in front of your home and folks will take what they want\,” organizers said\, “you still have to get rid of what’s leftover but that will be a much smaller pile.” \nOrganizers suggest adding a large “FREE STUFF!” sign to indicate that items are free and up for grabs. \nOnce stuff is out and labeled\, it’s up for grabs in a kind of free neighborhood giveaway event – just drive/stroll through the area and take what you like (takers must haul what they take). \nThere will be no “holds” allowed on items – everything is up to you to haul and you cannot knock on doors or bother homeowners. It’s first come\, first served! \nOrganizers also emphasized the eco‑friendly\, re-use benefits of the event. \nRemember – put out some good stuff you don’t need\, not junk or garbage\, and let’s turn this neighborhood into FREE Tree Point! \n
All are welcome\, and there are no fees or registrations. \nEvent Details:\n\nWHAT: Giveaway Days at Three Tree Point\, aka “Free Tree Point“\nWHEN: Saturday\, June 27 and Sunday\, June 28\, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.\nWHERE: Residents of Three Tree Point who live on SW 172nd Street\, SW 171st Street\, Three Tree Point Lane\, Maplewild Ave SW and other 3TP streets are encouraged to set out things they don’t need anymore outside their homes/driveways.

SUMMARY:Become a Community Scientist at Environmental Science Center’s annual BioBlitz on Saturday\, June 27
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to join the Environmental Science Center (ESC) at Seahurst Park for the third annual BioBlitz event from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. this Saturday\, June 27. \nHelp them document which species of plants and animals are present at the park during one snap-shot in time. This event will help ESC better understand what animals to expect in this habitat and track changes over time. \nAnyone can participate and become a community scientist! \nTake a walk anywhere in the park during regular open hours\, take photos of the plants and animals you see\, and upload them to the iNaturalist app or website under the ESC Seahurst Bioblitz 2026 project. \nStop by the park during the hours of 10 a.m.–12 p.m. to get help from ESC staff identifying organisms\, learn about the low tide creatures\, and find resources to help you become a community scientist. \nOrganizers will be at the front of the park and on the beach during low tide; just look for the brown vests. SR3 will also have their Marine Mammal Stewards available to help you learn about these cool animals in the Salish Sea. \nYou do not have to know how to identify any organisms to participate! By uploading photos to iNaturalist\, you allow other community members and scientists to identify organisms for you. \nCan’t make it down to the park that day? Consider joining ESC’s online project to help identify organisms after the BioBlitz day! We need help searching for and identifying what’s in the park. By utilizing our community members to do science\, you all can help inform and increase our understanding of this local habitat. \nLearn more at: \nhttps://bit.ly/3SZb0Sg\nFor questions\, accommodations\, and more information reach out to ESC’s Community Engagement Director at katy@environmentalsciencecenter.org. \n“Thanks to the City of Burien and King County 4Culture for funding this important research.”
