SUMMARY:Public comment period for Port of Seattle’s Draft EIS for airport SAMP runs through July 21
DESCRIPTION:The Port of Seattle announced that the public comment period is now underway for the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) Near-Term Projects (NTPs) at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). \nThe 60-day public comment period began May 22\, 2026 and will run through July 21\, 2026 at 4 p.m. PDT \nHere’s more info from the Port: \n\nSEA serves as a gateway for the over 8 million people who live in our state\, and for the 1 million more expected to move to the Puget Sound by 2035. To meet our region’s future needs and support a great traveler experience\, the Port of Seattle proposed a plan to guide future development for the airport. The planned projects will not only make SEA more efficient but will include benefits for people using and working at the airport\, as well as provide transportation improvements in and around the airport. \nThe DEIS is a crucial step under the SEPA process. This process ensures that public agencies assess the environmental impacts of proposed actions and provide opportunities for public input. \nComments should provide sufficient detail for the agency to understand the commenter’s position and why the issues raised are important to the decision-making process. Public comments can be submitted online\, by email\, by regular mail\, or in person at one of the four in-person public meetings taking place in June. The same information will be presented at all meetings in an open house format. Language translation assistance will be available at all public meetings in addition to childcare services. \nWe encourage you to visit the SAMP website to explore details about SAMP\, the proposed NTPs\, the SEPA process\, and how to participate during the public comment period. Your feedback is valuable to us! Sign up for future updates. \n\nPublic meeting information\n\n\n\n\nDate\nTime\nLocation\n\n\n\n\nMonday\, June 22\, 2026\n6–8 p.m.\nGlacier Middle School\nEntrance lobby/commons\n2450 S 142nd St.\, SeaTac\, WA 98168\n\n\nTuesday\, June 23\, 2026\n6–8 p.m.\nMount Rainier High School\nCafeteria space\n22450 19th Ave. S\, Des Moines\, WA 98198\n\n\nThursday\, June 25\, 2026\n6–8 p.m.\nWildwood Elementary School\nMultipurpose room\n2405 S 300th St.\, Federal Way\, WA 98003\n\n\nSaturday\, June 27\, 2026\n10 a.m.–12 p.m.\nGregory Heights Elementary School\nCafeteria and gym\n16201 16th Ave. SW\, Burien\, WA 98166\n\n\n\n\nPhysical copies of the SEPA DEIS can be viewed at: \n\nThe Conference Center at SEA\, 17801 International Blvd.\, SeaTac\, WA 98158\nPort of Seattle Headquarters\, Pier 69\, 2711 Alaskan Way\, Seattle\, WA 98121\nBurien Library\, 400 SW 152nd St.\, Suite 100\, Burien\, WA 98166\nDes Moines Library\, 21620 11th Ave. S\, Des Moines\, WA 98198\nValley View Library\, 17850 Military Road S\, SeaTac\, WA 98188\nFederal Way 320th Library\, 848 S 320th St.\, Federal Way\, WA 98003\nWhite Center Library\, 1409 SW 107th St.\, Seattle\, WA 98146\nTukwila Library\, 14380 Tukwila International Blvd.\, Tukwila\, WA 98168\nVashon Library\, 17210 Vashon Hwy. SUMMARY:Public hearing set for Sea-Tac Airport expansion plan on Thursday\, July 9 after community petition
DESCRIPTION:Residents of Burien\, Des Moines and other communities near Sea-Tac Airport will have an opportunity to speak directly to Port of Seattle commissioners about the proposed Sustainable Airport Master Plan Near Term Projects during a public hearing on Thursday\, July 9. \nThe hearing\, scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m.\, will be held in a hybrid format at the SEA Airport Conference Center and online. Verbal comments will be recorded and transcribed as part of the official public record for the State Environmental Policy Act Draft Environmental Impact Statement\, according to the Port of Seattle. \nBrian Davis of the Burien Airport Committee told South King Media that the hearing was made possible through community response. \n“This hearing is the result of action taken by people in the airport communities\,” Davis said. “We circulated a petition and easily met the 50 signature requirement contained in state law. In addition\, the law requires a hearing if two or more impacted cities requested one. The city managers of Des Moines and Burien did so.” \nDavis said the hearing gives residents a chance to address the elected officials who will ultimately decide whether to approve the proposed projects. \n“This means people will have the chance to speak directly to the Port commissioners who will ultimately vote on the projects in the airport expansion plan\,” Davis said. “None of the commissioners attended the Port’s open houses last week.” \nAccording to the Port of Seattle\, the Sustainable Airport Master Plan Near Term Projects include 31 proposed improvements intended to increase the efficiency\, safety\, access and support facilities at Sea-Tac Airport. \nMajor elements of the proposal include a second terminal and concourse with 19 additional aircraft gates\, an elevated busway connecting the rental car facility with the new and existing terminals\, expanded cargo facilities\, roadway realignments and other airport infrastructure improvements. \nThe Port said the purpose of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement is to provide an impartial analysis of the potential environmental impacts of the proposed projects before commissioners make a decision. The document also evaluates reasonable alternatives and identifies measures that could avoid\, minimize or mitigate environmental impacts. \nResidents may attend the hearing in person at the SEA Conference Center\, located on the mezzanine level of the airport at 17801 International Blvd. in SeaTac\, or participate online through the Port of Seattle Commission Meetings portal. \nIn addition to providing verbal testimony at the hearing\, the Port said comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement may also be submitted by email\, U.S. mail or through the project’s online comment portal. \nPaper copies of the SAMP are also available for review\, at the following locations: \n\nSeattle-Tacoma International Airport\, Airport Office Building\nMezzanine Level above Checkpoint 2\n17801 International Boulevard\nSeaTac\, WA 98158\nPort of Seattle Headquarters\, Pier 69\n2711 Alaskan Way\nSeattle\, WA 98121\nBurien Library\n400 SW 152nd Street\nBurien\, WA 98166\nDes Moines Library\n21620 11th Avenue S\nDes Moines\, WA 98198\nSeaTac Valley View Library\n17850 Military Road S\nSeaTac\, WA 98188\nFederal Way 320th Library\n848 S 320th Street\nFederal Way\, WA 98003\nWhite Center Library\n1409 SW 107th Street\nSeattle\, WA 98146\nTukwila Library\n14380 Tukwila International Boulevard\nTukwila\, WA 98168\nVashon Library\n17210 Vashon Highway SW\nVashon\, WA 98070\n\nPort Contact:\n\nSteve Rybolt\, Senior Environmental Program Manager\nP.O.
